Praised by The Heartland Journal for his “insight and tenderness far beyond his years” Dominic Cheli is a Naxos recording Artist and founding member of the Icarus Quartet. Noted for his “resonant and rich” touch (Heartland Journal), Dominic has performed at notable venues including Carnegie Hall, (Le) Poisson Rouge and the Sheldon Concert Hall of St. Louis. A highlight of the 2016 season included a performance of Beethoven’s 4th piano concerto with the St. Louis Metropolitan Orchestra. He has performed on Bob Sherman’s McGraw Hill Financial Young Artists Showcase and on the renowned NPR program From the Top. Interested in sharing his passion for music with younger audiences, Mr. Cheli has performed on the concert series “Baby Got Bach” at the invitation of Ms. Orli Shaham.
Mr. Cheli has received numerous awards including the Elizabeth Parisot Prize for being “an outstanding pianist”, the Harold Bauer Award “given to a student in recognition of outstanding accomplishment, cooperation, and promise” and the Charles S. Miller Prize “given to a gifted pianist who has done outstanding work.”
He was a semifinalist in the 2014 Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and winner of the 2014 Artist Presentation Society Auditions in St. Louis, Missouri.
Mr. Cheli began his musical training in St. Louis, Missouri and is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, California, studying with Mr. Fabio Bidini. He attained his Master of Music degree from Yale University and Bachelor’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music. Past teachers include Ms. Zena Ilyashov, Mr. Peter Frankl, and Mr. Andre-Michel Schub.
Upcoming projects include a CD of the piano music of Muzio Clementi set for release under the Naxos label in the Spring 2017.
